We began by seeing luxury as time and developed onto look at
handcraft, turning our backs on the fast pace and constant that technology has
brought us. Allowing the customer to see their money spent on skilled, time
consuming craft with the idea of buying less but spending more. Visiting Liza
Lou's exhibition at the White Cube gallery with a Trome L'oeil intricacy,
looking at beading as a canvas rather than a detail. The idea of imitating
objects, surfaces and fabrics such as Natalie Rachel's knitwear, which
reinterpreted graph patterns. We focussed on denim and tweed, traditionally hardwearing
fabrics, which would offer a contrast when remade in intricate beadwork. Using the
fabric image as print design on minimal yet formed silhouettes with the beading then
used as a surface texture to create a new and informed concept.
