Denim/Tweed
Some visuals for 'recreating', denim and tweed are both strong, distinctive fabrics to reinterpret.
I thought this theme with tweed fitted well with The Campaign for Wool that knitters have been working on....very British and relevant

Liza Lou‘s art may look amazing, but it came with a
high price for the artist. She was diagnosed with acute tendinitis while
she was working on “Kitchen”, because she applied every glass bead
individually, using tweezers. She uses only beads brought in from the
Czech Republic and considers them the most beautiful beads in the world.
so does tweezers imply its glue?? not sure i will keep researching....

During the five years that Liza Lou spent making her first major artwork—a life-size replica of a suburban kitchen, in which she hand-glued millions of glittering glass beads onto every surface, from the appliances to the dirty dishes in the sink—she got used to being dismissed, and at times despised, by people in the art world.

I really like this idea to recreate print ideas from digital distortion images using these types of techniques.

My current work is an exploration into traditional, functional and often domestic crafts, such as knit, crochet and lace making. Through three dimensional installation work I play around with removing the functionality of these crafts, taking them away from their usual context and by doing so challenge the often out dated connotations surrounding traditional processes.

I like this last image, it shows this modern design tying in beautifully with traditional surroundings.

I love this, lace on an architectural scale. I feel it also links well with the Christo images of wrapping.
Dino Lace
Talking to Abbey this afternoon gave me a few ideas of how to interpret this modern craft trend, interpreting hand craft in new ways..something as simple as Sophie Hulmes dinosaur lace really brings a modern feel.
